iji

CONTEXT

iji is the long-living, flexi-musical output project of West Coast, pop/rock eccentric Zach Burba. Since 2004 Zach has released countless records, tapes, and CDs that exist on a wide sound spectrum, from studio soft-rock to exploratory bedroom lo-fi, always centered on song and vision. The releases tend to oscillate between direct themes that attempt to lay bare the hard-to-name emotions clouding Burba’s brain, and a more far-out, dream-poem-stream-of-other-world. The highway and its gas stations, the inner “wild music”, the foggy thoughts, language failure, radical screeds, social desires, and culinary dreams are all in play in the big iji songbook.

Several lineups of the iji band have journeyed the self-booked tour circuits of American DIY music scenes over the years. Though iji are no strangers to the big-wig, black box, club stages they perhaps fit in best in open living rooms, cactus gardens, utopian warehouses, small-town art galleries, community centers, produce sections, freight elevators, and beach cliff-sides.

iji is currently based out of Los Angeles CA, but they have contributed to eras of DIY music scenes in previous hometowns Seattle WA, and Phoenix AZ.

Look out for new iji music in the coming year.
